S1 as you may have guessed, is right in the heart of the city centre in Sheffield. This busy, bustling area is extremely desirable for people of all ages, and is perfectly suited for anyone who wants entertainment, shops, amenities and local attractions right on their doorstep.
One of the best things about renting is S1 is that despite the vast majority of the properties being flats, there is still an enormous wealth of options based on your requirements. For the younger market, in order to cater for Sheffield’s large student population, you will find many state of the art student facilities all over S1, which have come on leaps & bounds from when I was a student. Many of which now boast gyms, entertainment rooms, cinemas and even rooftop seating areas thousands of feet up in the air!
If however, you’re a little too old for living in student accommodation like myself...There’s some truly beautiful developments offering high end living, such as St Pauls Tower. It stands just across from Sheffield Hallam University and is currently Sheffield’s tallest building, which offers a truly spectacular view of Sheffield. In addition to this, it has superb commuting links, as it’s only a 2 minute walk from Sheffield train station.
Now assuming you find the ideal property in S1, you certainly wont be short of things to see & do. One of my favourite areas to visit is The Peace Gardens. This scenic, award winning area has a great array of restaurants & bars, surrounded by the historical Gothic town centre and water fountains. There’s also plenty of grassed areas for seating, if you’re just looking to soak up some of the atmosphere and catch up with friends.
Just a few minutes walk from here, is another of the newer re-developed areas, which is Sheffield’s ionic shopping strip - The Moor. Since having undergone many changes over the last few years, The Moor in addition to its great range of shops, now has a terrific cinema & restaurant complex - known as The Light, which has become extremely popular since opening.
If you continue a little further down, you will then find Sheffield's famous indoor market, which has since moved over from the Castle Market. Open 6 days a week, this is always a vibrant place, for those who wish to take part in some old fashioned haggling to grab a bargain and support local businesses.
Last but not least, I have to mention another of the greatest aspects of S1, Sheffield’s iconic theatres - The Lyceum and Crucible. These theatres throughout the year host a brilliant array of musicals, plays and sporting events, which bring 1000’s of people into the City each year. They also proudly showcase a lot local talent, such as The Crucible most notably hosting the new play by local singer/songwriter Richard Hawley in 2019 and 2020 - ‘Standing at The Sky’s Edge’, set around Sheffield’s famous Park Hill Flats.
